Cook talks about his music and upcoming record

by pinella

If you are a David Cook fan (which I am), and you enjoy good interviews (which I do) then go to the following link on PopWatch and view the 3-part video interview with Cook conducted by Michael Slezak. Very insightful stuff on how Cook goes about writing songs and a look into his second record. Enjoy. http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/02/08/david-cook-sophomore-album-scoop/

Prelims over, 181 headed to Hollywood

by pinella

Well, the big party came to a close. Seven cities. 100,000 showed up to try out. 181 received Yellow tickets to Hollywood. This was the finale before we head to Hollywood next Tuesday with Ellen on the judging panel (not soon enough). We get another look at the General Larry Platt and his Pants On The Ground before the show starts. That was good. But the show didn’t turn out to be all that full of … Read More »

The dude auditioned in a bikini

by pinella

OK, it was Denver, the final audition city. We had a girl from Florence, Italy, and a guy in a bikini. We had a few unique voices and another one who left reluctantly. But it is good we are at the end of the auditions, they are getting tired. And, Victoria Beckham was back. I thought we had seen the last of her. But her return trip to the judging panel was … Read More »

They made Lambert look like Como

by pinella

I realize this post has little or nothing to do with American Idol, but… It’s been just about 48 hours now since the Grammy Awards show on Sunday night. It’s taken me that long to detox. What in the name of Dean Martin was that all about?! I mean, there were parts of that show that made Adam Lambert look like Perry Como. I tuned in to a music awards show and cirque de … Read More »

Joe, did you like the Dallas auditions? “Yea.”

by pinella

OK, OK, it’s the Dallas audition show. But before we get to the auditions, let’s give you a little reenactment of guest judge Joe Jonas who appeared on the second half of the show (well, make that the last third of the show cause the AI folks had enough sense to capitalize on Neil Patrick Harris – guest judge No. 1- for about 40 minutes). First up, Toddrick Hall from Arlington. What … Read More »

L.A. auditions, back stories told the tale

by pinella

I had wondered if the judges actually knew all the “back stories” prior to making their assessments. Tonight’s show answered that question – Yes. So, does it make it fair to know one contestent was raised in the gang-infested streets of Compton; or that another had a life’s journey through foster homes? Don’t know. Has to tug on their emotions and maybe sometimes for the contestents it tugs in the wrong direction. … Read More »

Did the General steal Pants On The Ground? OMG

by pinella

OMG, seems like the General (Larry Platt) has been caught with his own pants on the ground. The Senior Citizen who made such a splash at the Atlanta auditions seemingly has been caught stealing the song’s concept from the Green Brothers. Here, you listen to the song from YouTube and judge for yourself. The Green Boys, in their 70s produced this song in 1996.

Orlando auditions not all sunshine

by pinella

Audition Day 4 from Orlando Having spent two tours of duty in the Sunshine State (actually just worked for two different newspapers there 10 years apart) I have some insight into what to expect tonight. And the show didn’t disappoint, Talent was all over the map and although 10,000 showed up for the audition, there wasn’t that much of it. Kristin Chenoweth was the guest judge and she only lasted one day cause she … Read More »
