What in the name of Lee DeWyze is going on here?

For what it’s worth, let’s offer up to the Idol Gods a few lists to begin with…

First, a rundown of the past 11 Idol winners: 1 Kelly Clarkson; 2 Ruben Studdard; 3 Fantasia Barrino; 4 Carrie Underwood; 5 Taylor Hicks; 6 Jordin Sparks; 7 David Cook; 8 Kris Allen; 9 Lee DeWyze; 10 Scotty McCreery; 11 Philllip Philllips…

Now if you are counting that’s 7 of the 11 as male winners including the last 5 in a row. And at least two things are going on here as, if it were the Super Bowl, we are within playoff time of announcing AI winner for Season XII. First, we have the teeny-bopper vote (i.e. teenage girls) who cast their 50 votes at a time for the cutest boys in the field (i.e. Lazaro, who can hardly sing, but who cares at this point). Second, the mega-gods of the show who very much want a female winner, somehow stacked the deck against the male entries. Don’t know how, don’t care, but honestly could the entries on the male side this season really have been that bad?

Now let’s move on to the projected Top 3 finalists as revealed by the four judges on Thursday night’s elimination show: The Top 3 for Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson were all the same: Angie Miller, Amber Holcomb and Kree Harrison. Mariah Carey said Kree, Amber and Candice Glover. You take all that with the proverbial grain of salt and toss it over your shoulder for good luck.

Then there were the Top, Middle and Bottom lists from Thursday as voted on by the 25 million votes that came in from who knows where: The Top 3: Amber, Kree and Lazaro Arbos; Middle Duo: Candice and Angie; Bottom Feeders: Janelle Arthur and Burnell Taylor.

Of those two, and rightfully so, Burnell was jettisoned. And re. the save, and rightfully so, Burnell wasn’t.

So, there you have it – Lazaro is

in the Top 3 and Burnell is gone; there are five girls left and one male (guess which gender will triumph); and the best parts of the two weekly shows now has come down to watching past performers sing (Thursday it was Carrie Underwood and Casey James; next Thursday it’ll be Kelly Clarkson
and Scotty McCreery).

With all that said we await some words of wisdom via Mr. Taylor’s exit interview on Friday morning.
