Leading up to this week’s first live performance, the AI viewing public had seen very little of Huntington Park’s Joe Munoz.

He got to sing one song on Wednesday and within 24 hours the kid who wanted to be the first Mexican/American American Idol was headed home.

“I was disappointed not seeing myself,” Munoz said in a conference call Friday morning. “But I had no control over it. I think I had my moment and I got eliminated. I had a blast.

“I didn’t pull in enough votes. I have no idea. It’s really an unpredictable show. Even though the outcome wasn’t the best for me, I think things will get better.”

So, there he was a 20-year-old standing on stage next to Tim Urban facing the biggest moment of his young life. One was staying, the other’s dream was about to end.

“I didn’t wasnt ot get overconfident but that’s what happened. It was nerve-wrecking when he (Ryan) asked Kara who should go. I tried to keep calm.

“I got to see Tim right before I left the hotel this morning. He and Todrick (Hall), who probably was my best friend in the final 24. I got to say good-bye to them.”

So, it was the end of the road for Munoz. Did he have any regrets?
“I wouldn’t do anything differently. I’m pretty proud of myself. I loved the song I sang (You and I Both), it’s a beautiful story. I look up to Jason Mraz. It was the perfect song for me.”
