Idol Top 8

With a hip-hop style appealing to young voters, San Diego’s Avalon Young worked her way into the Top 8 on “American Idol’s” 15th and final season when the viewer vote was revealed during a two-hour show Thursday night.

Idol host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Gianna Isabella, Olivia Rox and Young received the fewest votes. But judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban decided that Young would be saved, leaving Isabella and Rox to be eliminated.

In addition to Young, the remaining contestants are MacKenzie Bourg, Trent Harmon, Lee Jean, Tristan McIntosh, Dalton Rapattoni, La’Porsha Renae and Sonika Vaid.

Young, who last week became only the fourth San Diegan to crack the Top 10 barrier in the show’s history, admitted earlier this week, that while winning is the ultimate goal, just being in the Top 10 was a big plus in her career.

“Of course I’d like to win,” Young said, “But getting to the Top 10 was a goal. No matter what happens I am just hoping that I have done enough to have caught the attention of someone and they notice me.”
