If American Idol execs could exhibit common sense right now they would simply cut to the chase and put Kree Harrison and Candice Glover in the finals. It’s fairly obvious after the first round of the Top 10 Wednesday night that they are the only two worthy of the crown … and even then it’s a little sketchy where they will fall in the success lineup of past winners.

Here are some thoughts after Wednesday’s show…

One man’s Top 10: 1 – Kree Harrison and Candice Glover; 3 – Amber Holcomb; 4 – Angie Miller and Paul Jolley; 6 – Devin Velez; 7 – Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch, Jr.,
Janelle Arthur and Lazaro Arbos…

Who goes Thursday night? Tossup between Arthur and Taylor and the nod here goes to Taylor…

Two-hour show (hour too long) with nine commercial breaks (nine too long)…

The big winner of the night was the 405, as in Interstate 405. Apparently, that’s the
highway that was so congested it delayed Nicki Minaj’s arrival until the second performer hit the stage. If only the traffic had been a little heavier and the delay had lasted a little longer (why wouldn’t you compensate for L.A. traffic jams and leave earlier to begin with? … probably because she’s Nicki and we aren’t)…

Outrageous Nicki comments of the night, in no particular order: comparing Amber to Whitney (seriously?); comparing Kree’s voice to waffles and smothering them in Aunt Jemima’s syrup (idiotic); calling Lazaro a cuddly little Ricky Ricardo (he politely
smiled but underneath probably felt like saying “What the hell!”); calling Amber’s performance the best of the night (Nicki needs to turn her hearing aid up a bit); Telling Angie: “Your legs are giving me everything I need in life”…; saying to Paul that his performance sexually stimulated her for the first time (no comment needed there)…

Mariah, Mariah, Mariah …. Here’s a thought. For Angie’s critique she used one word: “Stellar,” Carey said. That’s the ticket. Let Mariah use one word for every critique. We’d all be better off and they probably could work in another commercial and make
some more money. At one point Ryan asked her how come she didn’t give a contestant a standing ovation like the rest of the panel. “My dress is too tight,” she answered… OK, then…

This is American Idol season 12 and the question has been raised more than once: Is
this the worst season you have seen? After joining the Idol trip during the David vs. David season the answer here is after that season to now I would say, yes…but it’s still No. 1 in the ratings wars … go figure…
