Phillip Phillips sings "Home" Wednesday night in Ontario, Ca.

ONTARIO – Even an unexplained 40-minute delay to the start of the scheduled 7 p.m. American Idol Summer Tour concert here last night didn’t dampen the talent of Jessica Sanchezand Phillip Phillips. Both demonstrated why they finished Nos. 2 and 1 respectively on this season’s show.

Ms. Sanchez, a native San Diegan who will perform in her hometown Thursday night in the Tour’s final California stop, exhibited her amazing voice range while Phillips, a seemingly shy, almost introverted performer, was extraordinary on the guitar and displayed a unique vocal performance that should make him a staple in the music world for years to come.

Surprises of the night were Heejun Han who’s sense of humor and energy ignited the audience of about 9,000 at Citizen’s Business Bank Arena  in the first half of the 2 ½ hour show. Also Hollie Cavanagh, the fourth-place finisher who can’t weigh more than 90 pounds, displayed a voice and range just as big as she is.
