David Cook passed through Santa Rosa on Oct. 20. That happened to be exactly five months from the day of the Los Angeles Marathon, a race that Cook intends to run to benefit charity.

During his visit we promised to give Mr. Cook, who has never completed a marathon and in fact has only run as far as 12 miles, a game plan for his undertaking. To that promise we turned to Rosa’s own Julia Stamps Mallon, our premiere distance runner who has completed the L.A. Marathon.

Following is her outline of a training regiman for Mr. Cook and just about anyone else who thinks they might want to go that 26-plus-mile distance.

Dec 5th – 4 miles, 4 miles, 4 miles.

Dec 12 – 4 miles, 5 miles, 5 miles

Dec 19 – 5 miles, 5 miles, 5 miles

Dec 26th – 5 miles, 5 miles, 6 miles

Jan 2th – 5 miles, 5 miles, 8 miles

Jan 9 – 5 miles, 5 miles, 13 miles

Jan 16- 4 miles, 4 miles, 12 miles

Jan 23 – 5 miles, 5 miles, 14 miles

Jan 30 – 5 miles, 5 miles, 12 miles

Feb 6th – 4 miles, 4 miles, 18 miles
