No need to ask David Cook who received the loudest applause at the Aug. 7, 2009 American Idol Tour stop in Atlantic City. He heard the ovation for this year’s runnerup Adam Lambert compared to that given to winner Kris Allen.

“Yes, but last year I always felt like Archie (season 7 runnerup David Archuleta) got more response on the Idol Tour than I did,” Cook told IdolChatter in a phone interview last week.

“I did get to watch the show (on TV) this season. I thought there was a great amount of talent on it. And on the American Idol Tour I thought everyone was representing the show very well. I feel like this Tour is a good one.”

It wasn’t on the Tour, but on an Aug. 7, 2009 segment of Good Morning America that Cook got to perform in NYC’s Central Park with Lambert and Allen.

“It was a blast and kudos to both of them,” Cook said. “We’re all going about a million miles an hour right now and they really stepped up that day and sang the song (“Sweet Little Lies”) that the band and I have been doing for for awhile.

“In a big-brotherly sort of way I was proud of both of them … although I think Adam is actually older than I am,” Cook added laughing.

“I think they both are gonna be fine, I really do. Kris seems to have a confidence of self which can only help.

“Both Adam and Kris will do fine with a record from here on out.”

So, did Cook offer them any advice?

“No, not really and I don’t know that I would have any advice to give them other than just appreciate and enjoy what comes in front of you.”

Both Lambert and Cook were born in 1982.

I went to the Idol show when the Davids were performing. Though the applause was about even, I’d definitely say that in Phoenix, anyway, David Cook’s was the loudest. But trust David C. to give the nod to Archie, and a brotherhood boost to Kris. I love David, he is a class act. It’s great the way they all support each other. I can’t wait for Kris and Adam’s records!

That was a politically correct answer. Adam is the favorie everywhere he goes.

Last year I voted for David Cook every week, thought Archie and the tweens would win though, what a great surprise when his name was announced. Archie has an awesome voice but bored me after a few weeks, David was the great performer and artist, thrilled that he his having such a wonderful career in music, love his CD, waiting on the next one…….

What the writer is not saying is that Adam got the loudest applause of all three. I was there and i heard it. I was glad that my favorite was looking really hot and the other two looked like they were farmers ready to milk a cow. Please guys, at least comb your hair. Adam can not be compared to any other Idol contestant. Just read what Brian May has to say about Adam. Adam is in a class that includes the legends. I hope that his success has come at a time in his life that that he is strong enough to be the captain of his own destiny. So many icons have not had desirable fates. I hope Adam knows that he has fans that have his back. Do not mess with our baby!

I agree with Jasmine. Cook always comes up with the most thoughtful considerate answer. Too bad some of the questions he gets are not.

Cook is a class act. I think Kris and Adam are also. It’s too bad this segment of Adam’s fans like Vicki Vance don’t have his class. Adam always has wonderful things to say about Kris, and yet this fanatic group of followers feel the need to badmouth Kris at every turn. What a shame.

Funny that Cook thought Adam was older. It must be Adam’s maturity but he does appear to be older than his years. He is so wise for a man who is only 27! Some of the things I have heard him say blow my mind because he is so evolved for his age. The guy is a Buddha!

I am looking forward to Adam moving beyond this American Idol tag. Really, he doesn’t need that association anymore. The whole topic of Adam vs. Kris is been done to death by now. Media needs to move on.

It must also bug Kris when the media tries to get other performers to take sides. It is so childish really.

David Cook is a great artist but what makes him great is his attitude, his sensitivity that is present in his performances. Archie is a good kid and I hope that when he gets older his voice will mature. Yet, Archie is perfect for the teen roles in movies. Kris Allen reminds me of Steven Curtis Chapman. I think Kris would do great in contemporary christian music since the guitar is so used in christian songs. Adam Lambert is ubique and he will be the one who will go international quickly. It is because he gives himself a wide range in opinion and in lifestyle that he adapts to many. I love American Idol because it gives people the chance to do something with their talent. Everyone that has been in the final 10 in eveery season is so blest because it is a sure stepping stone that has paid off ven better than if some had won. The judges are the show and I hope Paula will continue to be on the show.

Adam is my BIG TIME FAVORITE!!!I’ve never voted for any contestant in AI before but this past one and it was because of Adam. He was fantastic at every show and I looked forward to all of his performances.

I saw GMA that morning and Adam looked fantastic compared to David Cook and Kris Allen. He looked like a star! They were all good singers but Adam always stands above the rest. His talent is out of this world!!!
Not only that, he was also humble and didn’t try to be above the others – what a great person he is.

    @Kate
It’s not because of Adam’s maturity or that he appears wise beyond his years. Cook IS actually younger than Adam. Both were born in the same year but Adam in January and David in December.

Anyway I love anytime that this man opens his mouth to speak or sing. I just realized today that the happiest moment that I’ve had in a long time is David’s Idol win. Still makes me all excited.

Kris is my favorite, but they all looked and sounded hot. They all seemed to be respectful of each other, which is more than I can say for the fans.

Adam is older than David, by a few months. Cook was born in December 1982, so he’s still 26. I went to the Idol tour last year and this year, and at least in my city, Cook got the most full-house applause, though Archie had the most high pitched screams. This year, even though I preferred Kris (and liked Adam), it was really clear Adam got the loudest cheers by far. Kris got great responses too, but the place was simply nuts about Adam.

Regarding the “funny that Cook thought Adam was older,” David actually said that he was feeling big-brotherly towards the guys despite the fact that Adam is older than he is which is true. I believe Adam was born in January of 1982? And, Cook was born in December of 1982. So, almost a year younger than Adam.

David was right, Adam is older by 11 months. For the record, I love both David & Adam. I’m actually getting sick & tired of some Adam’s fans who keep comparing him with either David or Kris and saying that Adam is way, way better than those two. It’s true that Adam has this amazing vocal range that can’t be reach by both David & Kris but one thing Adam lacks is… he doesn’t play any instrument, unlike David & Kris who can both play guitar, piano, violin.
I’m not saying that Adam is not talented coz he doesn’t play instrument but to put him on pedastal while condemning others is terms of their talents and looks is not someting that Adam himself approves.
So, while all of us Adam’s fans are waiting for the next great chapter in Adam’s life, let’s not be negative by criticizing others esp. David & Kris who are both talented ( if not, they wouldn’t have won!!) and adored by Adam.
    PEACE!!

Well, not to be hyper-technical here, while both Adam and David may have been born in the same year, Adam was born in January and David was born in December. So, yeah, Adam’s older by nearly a year. :-)

I agree that David is forever the diplomat, and kudos to him for it. It’s touching that he played the proud big bro to this year’s top 2! And, I agree, they all sounded great together. Cook was kind to share the stage and band on that cover.

I was at the GMA performance, too, and thought that the guys all looked and sounded good. My favorite of the three is David Cook, but I enjoyed the other two, as well.

According to wikipedia, Adam Lambert is about 11 months older than David Cook, so that counts as older. [smile]

Adam IS almost a year older than Cook so it’s not Adam’s evolved, mature, god-like qualities that made him think that. I like Adam, but his fans need a reality check. You will always think your Idol looked the best, sounded the best, and got the loudest applause but the person next to you may have an entirely different perspective if they don’t share your love for your guy. I’ve read first hand accounts from fans of all 3 guys at GMA and everyone says their guy got the loudest response and had the most fans. Just because you believe it, doesn’t make it a true fact.

Cookie’s birthday is 20 December 1982 (easy for me since mine is 2 days before Xmas myself!), so yeah, Adam’s older. I think all 4 (Cook, Archie, Adam, Kris) are awesomely talented but very-very-very different artistically.

Always so nice to see an intelligent journalist writing about who got the louder screams. So much thought must have been put into that Pulitzer Prize worthy article.

The late Dan Fogelberg, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, just to name a few “legends” probably don’t get screams when people attend their concerts.

Yet their music spanned and still spans decades.

Somehow I can’t imagine Adam’s music doing the same.

Additionally, I can well imagine how thrilled David Cook is to get asked about Adam Lambert.

So many thought provoking areas of this article. Who got the most screams (btw David was at ONE concert). Who is older.

Gad…it’s amazing how enlightening this article is. My 5 year old can do better.

Ha! I love your comments, Moishe! So true!
Journalists take note: Ask questions that pertain to the person you are interviewing! Interesting questions get interesting answers that people actually WANT to read. (Unlike this article.) Fanning fanwars = BORING!

I was at GMA. It was Cook’s show all the way hands down with everyone going wild – singing along, clapping and bouncing around when he was performing – you can’t really hear or feel the audience participation on the TV. Kris came across as a GREAT guy and Adam has a BEAUTIFUL voice. America got lucky this year with these two!

It was so unfair of GMA to not include David Archuleta. Perhaps he couldn’t have been there because as Teen Choice Breakout Artist of the Year he was too busy on the Teen Choice award winning tour he is presently on singing his Teen Choice award winning song “Crush”. I guess he got the votes there. Believe me, if you would go to one of his shows, you would definitely include him with these other three artists. And, my guess is he would come out on top. Look for his Christmas album to be released in October and another new album not too long after. Where have you all been??? Also, he’s only 18 and this good. He’s also receiving a tribute for all the wonderful, charitable things he’s doing. Better Google him and check into all that.

Vicki Vance is probably one those clueless people who has heard of Brian May during American Idol, May has a habit of handing out praise to everyone who wants it. Lambert is a good vocalist, but he is simply overkill at many times, fake emotions while singing, all that melodrama, what he’s doing has already been done. See Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley.

    Case closed.

You know I am a huge David Cook Fan and I was there at the concert. I was actually surprised at how much louder the fans cheered when Adam sang and I thought wow they cheered louder for him than they did for David Cook. I was a bit upset but happier when Kris Allen took the stage and his applause wasn’t as loud. Now I like all three and I really don’t think you can compare the three as they are each different artists. I think Adam Lambert is an exceptional performer. However I thought the set was suppose to be more for David Cook. I guess I was just surprised at the excitement when Adam came up and sang, that’s all.

Last year, I was so happy that a rocker, David Cook finally won. However, Adam Lambert blew me away. I watched EVERY episode (except 2) because of him.

@Jude, It’s been years since Elvis or Freddie performed a show for us. It’s more than high time that someone of that caliber came along. (And I think that Adam is even better than those 2.)

@Rose: It’s funny how you only notice Adam fans’ comments and never notice the derogatory things Gokey and Kris fans say about Adam which have NOTHING to do with SINGING or simply COMPARING the skill of the singers.

    August 19th, 2009 8:09 am

@Rose: David “Archie” is on tour right now. That’s why he couldn’t be included on GMA or attend the Teen Choice Awards, but he did win something.

Another example of a stupid interviewer and insipid questions. Not only that, but another example, with notable exceptions, of clueless fans. Who is better among these three? It’s completely subjective. I happen to adore David Cook. Does that mean he’s head and shoulders above the other two? NO. It means he appeals to me the most. One of the others will appeal to someone else the most and the remaining one will appeal to yet others the most. It’s all a matter of opinion. They’re all incredibly talented, will very likely all be very successful. They are different from each other, so different people like them for different reasons. All these jackass fans bad mouthing others need to get a grip. Your opinions are only that – opinions. It’s nice you have your favorites just as I do, but in the end, it doesn’t make one gnat’s worth of difference. These guys all have more class than any of the fans here who are bad mouthing others.

I am an Adam fan all the way, but I have to be honest about who had the loudest applause. I was not at the GMA concert, but I did watch it on TV. It was clear to me that Cook had the loudest applause. But Adam did look the hottest.

I would love to have attended this concert but had to watch from home. All performed well and were well received, as seen on TV. Adam Lambert certainly looked like a movie star up there! And by my saying so I am expressing my OPINION, still a right in this country, though I’m not sure for how much longer…

Diane if you were not at the GMA concert and Nailbitter was, it doesn’t matter what you think you heard on TV. Nailbitter said Adam got the loudest appaulse. But does it really matter? All three are great artist, and they will all do great. I am a huge David Cook and Adam Lambert fans. Voted for both. I am beginning to be a Kris Fan as well, that man has more grace and he is a sweet, sweet man. He won Idol, yet he does not care all the fanfare over Adam. He knows he will be just fine too.

    Kradam you rock.

Anybody can play musical instruments, but nobody can sing like Adam. What good are those instruments if you sing like a duck? Adam is one of a kind . A true Artist with real talent. He would still outshine the others should he sing a cappella.

Since Adam is getting the bulk of the applause at concerts, it seems really fishy that Kris won the Idol competition.
I think a lot of people voted that wouldn’t go to the concert, anything just to vote against Adam and what he stands for.
The true Idol fans know that Adam is far superior and Adam wins hands down.

Kris will do fine(for now, but will be forgotten in the long term). But Adam will do greater, greater, greater than the declared winner. Adam is just starting and he got three awards already, and now his music is the soundtrack of a very expensive movie, 2012.

    To Dianne,

Adam had the loudest cheers when he sang, ok. Now, he only sang two songs, while David Cook sang most of the time in the show. Adam was just like an extra, but drew more cheers.

Adam clearly rises above the rest. A legend in the making. Saw him live, 6th row, New York, blew me away with a stage presence, charisma, talent that is one of a kind incredible. Adam doesn’t need advice from Cook, Adam knows what he wants, knows how to get it, and is the ICON of this century. Happy to be witnessing history.

Sorry, but I too braved NYC Central park concert(7-8 feet from stage), and was blown away by fan reaction to Adam. I also must say that though I was there for Adam, David Cook and his rocking band(especially Neal) were truely an added bonus. David Cook was very gracious about the fans reaction, tried to let them get it all out, but it really was impossible because Adam just sounded and looked so amazing. For two hours we got to watch sound checks, practices, interviews etc, they all were very professional , and gave us the fans great interaction. It began around 630am people, did not actually perform until after 830am and the Idols and David had to be very tired.
